Fr. Troha

Once again or Bishops are calling for a Fortnight for Freedom to start on June 21st until July4th. This is a two week period of prayer, fasting and action to preserve our fundamental right of religious freedom and the sanctity of marriage. Each of us is asked to pray and fast in some manner.  The challenges we face include the August 1st deadline to comply with the federal Health and Human Services mandate.  There are several provisions of this mandate which go against our religious beliefs. The Supreme Court is expected to rule soon on the definition of marriage.  Everyone is encouraged to take part in the Fortnight for Freedom in some way.  With God’s help, our freedoms will be maintained.

Congratulations to the winners of the Fred & Frances Guella and Norman E. & Elizabeth C. Carter scholarships. The Guella scholarship is a $500 scholarship given to a parishioner going into the 8th grade at Mater Dei Academy.  The scholarship is partly academic as well as based on character for  a student who exhibits an exemplary Christian attitude in daily life.  This year’s winners are: Jacqueline Drake, Stevan Levand, Bryan McNamara and Anna Skalicki.  The Carter scholarship is also for $500 and is given to a parishioner going into the 4th or 5th grade at Mater Dei Academy. The scholarship is for a student who maintains good grades, is involved in school activities and has supportive parents.  This year’s winners are: Jacob Hite, Joseph Matteo and Peter McGill.  Congratulations to all of our winners and their families!

Fr. Michael Troha
